So there are two ways of getting there...

First way

405N to 605N to the 5N to the 101N

Second way

405 N all the way down exit Wilshire...

I never even knew about the second way; that you could just take the 405 N. You won't have to merge on different freeways but it takes you a bit further off the path to your final destination whereas the first route takes you right to the heart I think. However, it involves more merging on different freeways.

Which way do you take to Hollywood?

There are a lot more than two ways, probably several thousand ways if you figure in all the combinations of local streets.

405 to 710 to 5 to 101
405 to 110 to 101
405 to 605 to 91 to 110 to 101
405 to 605 to 105 to 110 to 101

405 to 605 to 5,exit at Los Feliz. Take Los Feliz to Western to Franklin into Hollywood.

405 to 710 to 5 to 10W,exit at Western. Take Western to Pico to San Vicente to go to West Hollywood or take Fairfax north to go to Hollywood.

The best way to do it is to check Sigalert.com before you leave to find out which route will move best and stay tuned to 1070 am for the traffic updates if you need to revise your route. Even better if you have a new car with one of those real time traffic displays you can adjust your route as needed.

Traffic nightmare with the 405/10 interchange and all the westside traffic.

I never realized there were so many routes... I generally use mapquest and it always spits out the same route... the same one route...

I prefer not to merge as much. Yesterday was the first time I took the 405 S and exited at Sunset blvd. The only prob was instead of a right turn I made a left and ended up in Pacific Palisades! Wow, that Sunset blvd was one windy, curyv road and the scary thing was everyone was driving so fast on it. The exit was a bit far from Hollywood though, it was a few miles from the exit before you would hit the Hollywood area.

If you really hate driving there that much you can try parking at the Fullerton train station, taking Amtrak or Metrolink to Union station in downtown LA and taking the Red Line to Hollywood.

lol, I agree. Nothing beats cranking April Smith and The Great Picture Show when you're heading up the freeway. Makes any ride go much more smoothly.

the best route IMHO is the 405 north to La Cienega. Exit La Cienega near the airport and take it all the way up to Hollywood. La Cienega is more like a freeway than a boulevard between the 405 and Jefferson Blvd. with only a few stop lights.

Can you give specific directions? After La Cienega make a left or right and how to get to Sunset eventually?

Last time I took a wrong time and ended up in Pacific Palisades. Don't want to do that again!!

Well, yesterday I ended up going to LA again. Took the 405 N exit Wilshire and took N Beverly Glen up to Sunset... It was another one of those two lane streets... great... Sunset is seriously scary before it gets into Beverly Hills, there are only two lanes and there are some crazy curves. I am just not used to it because in OC the streets are nice and straight most of the time...
