Hi! Can you help me? I'm considering a job with a commute from Santa Monica to Irvine - how long a drive in rush hour traffic? Many thanks!

If you can leave early/late then you might be able to cut that down. I have people I work with here in Irvine who drive down from Santa Monica, arriving at work around 7:00/7:30 am and leaving around 7:00pm.....it's about an 60 - 75 minute drive at those times...otherwise...good luck.

I wholeheartedly agree. Irvine and the surrounding cities are nice areas, so why not move to that area instead? In the last six months of 2005, I worked in Irvine, commuting from Lakewood (next to Long Beach). Even though the drive one way was about 27 miles, on average it would take me an hour and 15 minutes. Traveling down the 405 south in the morning is a nightmare! It's a slow-going parking lot from Westminster until you get past the 55 freeway. I'm not kidding!

So, yes, for your sanity, PLEASE try to find a home closer to Irvine!

I live in Irvine & interviewed for a job in West LA right at the 405 &10 interchange. Prior to the second round of interviews I "tested" the commute Took me 1 hr. 35 minutes to go "up the gut" on the 405 leaving at 7am. Took 2:15 to get back down at 5pm.

Traffic was moving abut the same going the opposite way. If anything, it was a bit slower on the stretch between the 605 & the 55.

I passed on the third round of interviews.

I'm kind of in the same boat....living in Irvine, but commuting to Santa Monica. I have a motorcycle though. would that cut down on the traffic time, since motorcycles can share lanes?
