Hi Everyone!

We are three University Graduates (Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Western Ontario and Guelph University) hoping to make the move to the West Coast and experience living in California. We are currently evaluating minimum-wage/entry level positions, just to get us started as we would hope to begin our career search once we have arrived.

Ideally we would love to travel and fully experience the beautiful state of California prior to settling into a full-time 9-5 job.

I was just wondering if anyone out there had some suggestions for us or any information that could assist us in speeding up the process. To my knowledge, we would have to obtain an H2B visa but am open to exploring other options.

Thanks for all your help

You're in for a rough road. It will be very difficult to obtain a visa in this economy. Unless you have some special in skill demand...good luck. Maybe check out the N.A.F.T.A website and see if any of you will qualify for a TN visa. That really is your only chance right now. No company is going to sponsor you to come and work in an entry level position....there is no shortage of unemployed Americans who qualify for minimum wage positions. I wanted to move to the California so I'm in nursing school now...that is a career that will be alot easier to find work in the U.S....minimum wage jobs...not so much.
If you all want to expiernce the West Coast, move to Vancouver, get jobs and wait till the economy gets better. Vancouver is a great city with far better weather than Ontario....not Southern California weather though.

Since you want to travel the state and a minimum wage job won't pay much by definition, skip the job and come as a tourist. After you've gotten that out of your system, decide if you really want to pursue a life here.
