i will be leaving around 3 30 or 4, perhaps barely past 3pm from ucsd to fullerton. are there any faster routes than the 5North and is the traffic bad say if i leave at 4?

i've always left around 2 or 2 30 and have been okay, but i'm afraid i might get stuck at the irvine traffic if leave at 4...

oh and i will be having another person with me, so carpool is good

I do the drive from UTC to Irvine 2+ times a week sually leaving sometime between 3-4. You'll be backed up through Encinitas then its pretty smooth sailing until you get to Irvine around Culver or Jamboree, then it slows down. The few times I've gone further north its been a slog (and sorry carpool does not help - actually I would reccomended getting out of the carpool lane before you hit the 55/5 intersection. Tha I5N carpool lane between the 55 & 57 is always a cluster ) from Jamboree to the orange crush at the 5/57/22 intersection, then it seemed to open up again.
