I have a new job in Irvine and need to find an apartment within a 30 min commute. Other than the job interviews, I've never explored the OC area. I'm a single, 45 year old, female executive with no children. Ideally, I'd like my rent in the range of $1200. The most important feature to me is a newer complex with upgraded features (granite counters, upgraded appliances, maybe wood/wood-look flooring in kitchen). I don't care for the older, carpeted, white appliance type complexes. I'm looking for something like the Avalon and The Park complexes in Irvine but 600ish sq. feet is awfully small for a one bedroom. I'd like a one bedroom with min. 800 sq. feet. My lifestyle is fairly quiet. A good run in the morning, working out, being outdoors during the day, and a nice meal and glass of wine at night. I could care less about nightlife other than restaurants. I know I may have to compromise on some of these, but this would be my ideal to start with. I know nothing about the surrounding areas of Irvine like Tustin, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, Huntington Beach. Can anyone recommend an area and specifically any complexes?

I think you will have to increase your budget in order to find a newer development with everything that you have specified.

I did a corporate lease with a co-worker at this place. Very nice apartment overall and quiet area. Gated and has all the amenities you are looking for. Price is a little north of what you would like, but I think for what you want it's to be expected.

Generally speaking, with the exception of Newport Beach, apartment prices are lower outside of Irvine. You may be able to find a reasonably priced 805 sq. ft. apartment ($1285 - $1385) with modern amenities at Alicante in Aliso Viejo:
