Riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is illegal in most places. He could have easily ticketed you for that.

Hey JHidden, you sound like a level headed person who just got caught up in being irritated over a situation. Yes, you've been in trouble in the past. Yes, you were riding your bike in a manner not completely legal. Kudos to you for changing your life and for getting over being irritated at this situation. Keeping things in perspective is what life is all about. The cops were doing their job, they messed with you some to see how you would react, but obviously you handled yourself well and they let you get on your way. Life keeps moving on.

They picked their profession. Dealing with violent gun carrying people is part of the daily routine, there is no excuse to avoid major crimes so they can feel safer by hassling a guy on a bicycle. What would happen to the crime rate if all cops avoided violent crimes and just pulled over people on bikes?
