... again I like So Cal and it is a beautiful area ... ... yes the people are more laid back and I would say nicer ... .
You sound confused Rock Newman, it's apparent you don't know what you like. You say you love So Cal and the people are laid back and then you revert to negative comments about California. Rock Newman, sounds like you may be projecting your life in So Florida onto the inhabitants of Southern California.
Let me take this opportunity to defend the defenseless Mexicans that you speak of in California; from my experience the Mexicans have adapted and have embraced the American culture FAR MORE than any latin in So Florida. The Mexican youth actually speak ENGLISH in California. I can't say the same for the latin youth of Miami-Dade.
All my working career spent in Southern California I've worked with many people of Mexican decent and NOT ONCE did I ever come across someone who had a hard time with the English language or a even a hard time relating to American Pop Culture as I have in Miami. For Pete's sake Rock Newman, latins in Miami don't know who Elvis Presley is (that should be a sin)!!!! I find it hard to believe that every other radio station is Mexican Norteno. Especially for myself, growing up in Los Angeles - the mecca of Rock music and the Sunset Strip. PLEASE ROCK NEWMAN!
I won't deny the smug attitudes. Afterall, this is where Hollywood and the entertainment industry mostly resides. However, I'd take the smug attitudes over the Miami "look at me and I'll kill you" attitudes any old day!
Let's just agree to disagree on California vs Miami-Dade....

. . .(maybe once in 6 months)??? You've definitely been gone from Souther California for way too long. I run into people who speak no English at all on a regular basis! Worse yet, they expect for you to speak Spanish to them just because one happens to look Latino.

Dude, you are seriously delusional!!! I live in a predominantly Asian community. Most Mexicans I come across DO NOT speak fluent English for one reason or another. Most seem to have a disdain for anything "not Mexican," music included.
At my place of work, there are several laborers, all of Mexican descent. When it is necessary to speak to any of them, I do so in English. As a result, they barely address me. Why do I do this? Because most people at my place of work do not speak Spanish, yet everyone speaks English. It's rude to speak in a language others may not understand.
You obviously have never been to Miami have you FLORITAR to give such an uneducated opinion on it. I am born & raised in Southern California, so I know a thing or two about the residents and the spanish speaking element there. The people who speak spanish in California are in NO WAY compared to the latins in Miami - completely different. Ft. Lauderdale & Boca are a lot diffrerent than Miami-Dade. More Americans in these areas, which means more people speaking ENGLISH.
The latins in California have adapted to the American culture and way of life; I can't say the same for the latins in Miami. They treat Florida like it was Cuba or the Dominican Republic, Colombia....
Warm weather is nice Floritar if it doesn't come with 100% humidity. Floritar.
Never been to Miami, no knowledge, more people speaking English in Ft laud and Boca, hardly. I go to Miami very often. My son goes to school in Boca. Yes Spanish is even spoken way up here, and that is what all the population growth is from. Yes they hold strongly to their culture, but I have never met a more patriotic group. They are thriving in Florida speaking Spanish out of school. Still Spanish and its second language/immigration issues is much stronger in CA

Good post chacho ... I believe this guy is in for a rude awakening when he returns from Miami if he does not expect to hear "mucho " Spanish in So Cal .... I was in Santa Monica this am at a Starbucks and there was tons of Spanish speakers .... yes the Mexicans tend to be a little more unassuming and not as loud as the Hispanics in Miami .. the Hispanics in Miami tend to be more in your face and louder but that is cultural as they are Caribbean Hispanics like Cubans , Puerto Ricans , Dominicans and Venezuelans many of whom are of African Caribbean background mixed with white and their culture , music , look and food is very different from Mexicans ... not saying better , just different ... now that Mexicans want to assimilate to American culture more than other Hispanics ... I doubt that seriously ... I travel to Mexico City and Monterrey often on business and I see more disdain for the US there than in any other Latin American city .... by far !!!

I do like So Cal as I like So Fla .... no trashing anywhere ... you are the one who is trashing Miami "amigo" ... posting a warning for Californians wanting to move to Miami which is hysterical ... I had not heard of any mass influx of Angelenos to Miami ... other than celebs flying in and partying on South Beach for the weekend .. I am just saying that both areas share common problems and that they are not as different as you claim and that So Cal is not the nirvana you seem to believe it is.. you are in for surprise if you move back to the LA area after five years .
. . .(maybe once in 6 months)??? You've definitely been gone from Souther California for way too long. I run into people who speak no English at all on a regular basis! Worse yet, they expect for you to speak Spanish to them just because one happens to look Latino.
I was there last year. Where do you run into these people Chacho, when you talk to the gardeners or out on the farm? Remember Dude I grew up there and I'm latino. The only the way you're going to run into people in Los Angeles who don't speak a lick of English is if you are in areas that only the mexican immigrants populate to.

Chacho - you have a problem with the Mexicans because they don't acknowledge you not because their lack of English. You think you got it bad in Los Angeles with the Mexicans not addressing you - come down to Miami you'll be laughed at Chacho.
You contradict yourself Chacho by saying "Because most people at my place of work do not speak Spanish, yet everyone speaks English" but then you try and tell me no one speaks English - hmmm. You sound like Rock Newman - confused. Chacho - you're around the Mexicans that don't speak English because of what you do for work not because no one in Los Angeles speaks English.
I also think it's rude for people to speak in other languages that others don't understand. Welcome to my world in MIAMI!!
I travel to Mexico City and Monterrey often on business and I see more disdain for the US there than in any other Latin American city .... by far !!!
Rock Newman, how does one sit there and write such rubbish and keep a straight face? When you make a statement about how the Mexicans seem to be more disdain for the US than other latin countries, have you forgotten Cuba? Did you forget that Fidel Castro unloaded boat loads of mental Cubans to the US on purpose?
You're a smart one Dude!
