Question Moving from Chicago to Westminster

Hey I think I might be moving to Westminster with my parents. They moved there a few years ago and I was thinking of moving there to go to school (since they say they will pay for it). I'm not making a lot of money in Chicago at the moment.

I've lived in Chicago most of my life. I live in Wickerpark. I'm an avid cyclist and I prefer to bike everywhere. I'm in my early 20's and I'm wondering what it's going to be like living there. How is the bicycling infrastructure (bike lanes)? Are there places where people my age hangout (bars, art galleries, etc)? Are the neighborhoods anything like Chicago?

Thanks.

I wouldn't want to be on a bike in Westminster.

Google Maps has a nice feature with bike lane overlays.

Westminster, probably like East Garfield Park. And yes, interesting drivers.

I wouldn't ride a bike from bolsa to Westminster and newland to brookhurst. lol.

My grandparents live in Westminster. It's an ok place but I, myself wouldn't choose to live there, but if your moving in with your parents to save money and go to school, than do it. Just make sure your paying full attention while driving. They had out drivers licenses like candy...anyone can get one.

Drive your car down to PCH and Goldenwest and bike down the beach. Don't bike in Westminster.

Westminster is as bland worn down suburbia as it gets. Relatively safe, large vietnemese minority. It's ok, but just a place to live.

i've never heard anything good about drivers in chicago, so it couldn't be any worse in OC. also, the streets in most of OC (especially the main thoroughfares) are very wide, usually with enough shoulder space for cyclists. Pacific Coast Highway is very popular with cyclists (mostly roadies), so many drivers are used to cyclists on the roads. don't be too freaked out by others comments here, a capable urban cyclist should be able to get by just as easily in OC as in chicago, probably even moreso because of said wide roads, comfortable year round temps, and flat geography.
