Hello,
I am relocating to Cypress, CA shortly. This is my first time at west coast and would like to hear about the city, useful tips, hints, etc. I am looking for a nice apartment for rent. My work would be at Cypress. I would like to hear opinions about neighbouring cities - Anaheim, Cerritos, Artesia for living. I would like to know about things to do around the city in leisure. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you. |

Hi Chattanoogan.
I currently work in Cypress. Not sure how old you are or if you have family, that would help me pick cities for you to live in nearby. Cypress is a very average city I'd say. Not exactly great, but not exactly bad. Its mainly made up of houses with families, and lots of businesses/office buildings. Some undesirable people live there, but not much. Its fairly close to Disneyland & the beach. If you're young and single, want to live near the beach and like to party, move to Huntington Beach, which is right next door to Cypress. If you want a little more laid back and more upscale area, with more charm, but also more expensive, but still be near the beach and party, move to Seal Beach or Belmont Shores in Long Beach. Both are also right next door to Cypress. If you're older and/or married and want peace and quiet in a nice neighborhood, move to Los Alamitos (expensive), or Fountain Valley (slightly less), or the east side of Long Beach (middle of the road). All are very close to Cypress. No matter what, I'd stay away from Anaheim, Garden Grove, Cerritos (but it depends on the location), and Westminster. All those areas are pretty bad overall, even though they're cheap to rent an apartment. Anaheim has Disneyland, but its a city you want to visit only, not live in. Lots of bad areas. |

I second the sentiment about Anaheim. Also, stay out of Artesia and La Palma. AFAIK, there is quite a bit of gang activity there.
Look into the Sunny Hills area of Fullerton as well as Cypress. |

Cypress, is a nice town; middle class community Home to Los Alamitos Race Track(if you are into that) and Cypress College (a Junior college). Cypress has a large corporate center neighborhood which you probably work in. Any way, Cypress has good schools, shops and services, being a suburb there not much of nite life, very Community oriented. Thanks to Cypress College, Cypress has go stock of apartments, condos and townhomes.
La Palma is due north is a also a good community its much smaller than Cypress.La Palma is served by Riverside Fwy 91; La Palma served by La Palma Intercommunity Hospital and Centerpoint Corporate Center and Business Parks. The town has good schools too. Not much night life again. La Palma has more plenty of single family home than apartments and condos. Cerritos is northwest of Cypress and one the most diverse communities in the area a good mix of black, white, Asian and Latino. Great Schools(Whitney HS is one the top performing schools in California. Plenty of Shopping and Dining at Cerritos Town Centre and along 183 rd St Adjacent to Los Cerritos Center Cerritos is mostly single family, some townhomes, very few apartments mostly located on the far west side between Palo Verde and Studebaker Rd. There is entertainment at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts at Cerritos Town Center where you can catch a variety of acts ranging from the Smokey Robinson to Clint Black; Vonda Sheppard to Pat Benatar. Along with Chamber quartets, ballet, opera; contemporary dance, broadway shows, etc. Los Alamitos is south of Cypress its has a variety of homes apartments, condos. It home to US Armed Forces Reserve Base, Los Al has shops, restaurants also very community oriented town If you need night life well there is Long Beach. I hope this helps. |
