So we have taken the plunge and are purchasing a home in Orange County - our first in California. I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me out with:

1. Who is a low cost carrier that is also reliable for homeowners and car insurance? I want to pay the lowest amount possible, but also be able to collect on a claim if I need to.

2. I only need condo coverage - for a 3500 square foot condo, what would you recommend be the amount of coverage? The bank has recommened 20% of purchase price.

Thanks for your help.

You should work out your coverage needs first. Then get the price down based on having that chosen coverage.

On Condo insurance the HOA usually covers the structure. They have insurance designed for condos to cover belongings. Most plans are about $25 a month

Use some online insurance search comparison tools.
Make the comparison assuming cost savings by bundling with auto insurance coverage.
Insurance varies so much by location, housing type, etc. Any one person's advice probably is too specific to them.

Strongly consider an umbrella policy for an extra $1M or $2M. They don't cost that much and if you have assets you need the coverage.
