I've been hanging out in Irvine since the University was brand new. Perfectly nice place to live. They DO bump into you a lot there. It's not rudeness. It's Irvine Unconsciousness. As long as you don't start thinking "They're only bumping into us because we're a mixed race couple/I'm Black/I voted Democratic/We have a mutt/Insert imagined prejudice here" you will be fine. Really.

I'm a nice, white Boomer lady and I get bumped into all the time in that town. By my friends. Irvine Unconsciousness. They're thinking about their tennis lesson.

Edit to add: I know a lot of mixed-race couples and families that live in Irvine. Can't say I know any Black/White but I know White/Asian, White/Indian, Asian/Indian, Asian/Persian, White/Persian. None of them have told me any absolute horror stories. Mostly stories about White dad taking very Asian looking son to Home Depot and the checker saying, "Looks like Mom, huh?" So if that would bother you... I've never heard stories of a waitress refusing to serve a mixed race couple or someone putting their house up for sale because a mixed race couple has moved in next door from any of my friends.

Irvine is very diverse color-wise but culturally not. That's actually a good thing if you want to be around people who try to succeed in life, live in a clean and safe place, and not rock the boat too much. Go visit the Irvine Spectrum on a Friday evening and you'll see the colors of the rainbow, often mixed.
