We currently live in Irvine (Woodbridge). We have two young children. We are interested in buying a house in either Irvine or Aliso Viejo. My husband works by John Wayne Airport.

I'm afraid if we move to Aliso we will miss Woodbridge. Here we can walk the kids to school, ride our bikes, play tennis, and best of all Irvine baseball. All I know about Aliso is we can get a much newer and bigger house for the same money.

I would love to hear any information you might have

Check out my thread titled "Green" communities in OC? as pacific2 has provided quite a bit of info on Aliso Veijo. Good luck in your home search.

That's all you know about Aliso?
Did you look into schools, demographics, climate, shopping, taxes, and family amenities?

You're right, I know more than just that about Aliso. I'm just worried I will regret leaving Irvine. Has anyone had this experience?

With that concern, I'd think twice

Woodbridge is considered highly desirable.
If you like it there, and are established, I wouldn't leave for just a bigger house.

On top of that, figure 8% to 10% of the cost of the house you're selling just to move. So if you own a $500K home now you're looking at an out of pocket expense of $40K to $50K just to move.

Thank you for your responses. We are currently renting. We would have to wait two years to buy what we like here. I'm getting antsy......

Getting antsy that house prices will rise ?

There's not a lot to drive that.
Less jobs
More people moving out of CA than into it
Lenders not so "giving"
Investors still smarting

That run up of the early 2000s was somewhat unique
in real estate. It's usually a slow growth industry
