Wow! What is that intersection, Charles, do you know? We moved to LF in 1980, and it looked like a normal little suburb then. That looks like you've already crossed through the town and are headed into the canyon. The canyon wasn't built up much even in the early 90s--I used to go through there to Chapman in the summertime.

To answer the OP question: No. LF is a suburb.

The only small town place that I can think of in OC is Silverado Canyon.

Balboa villiage has somehwat of a small town atmosphere in the winter when all the beachies and tourists are gone.

Laguna is seperated from othrer areas making it more of a town and less an extension of the giant suburb, but Laguna is not that small.

"Lake Forest" has always sounded to me like the name of a cemetery!

I remember as a kid in the early 60's, driving with my folks to visit my cousins in San Diego. We saw lots of virgin natural hills and fabulous seascapes as we headed south from Anaheim on the 5. Once we left Santa Ana it was open land all the way to San Clemente and then open land all the way to the San Diego County line. It was beautiful!

Now, it's urban sprawl from Ventura to the Mexican border with the only open land being that which is called Camp Pendleton.

To me, that's tragic and depressing...

Who here remembers when Cook's Corner was in the boonies??

It would be less depressing if they added in some skyscrapers and tall buildings/bright lights like Hollywood and LA. I find "open land" depressing; I like urban cities like LA (my dream place to live).

I bought my first draft beer there in 1972. But there was another bar in the canyons that made Cook's seem like it was in the big city: The Hideout in Rose Canyon, near Trabuco Oaks.

That would Be ETR & Toledo Way, and the year would be ~1969.
