hi guys, i'm just new here, i am planning to move to california by november, is it really hard to find a job in orange county doing office/administrative work? i will move first before my husband and son to see if i can find a job first, how long do you guys think I can find a job? would it take more than 2 months? i know the cost of living is high there but I am willing to take a risk since i'm tired of living here in rainy seattle.

There are lots of jobs out there but there are way more people applying than positions that are open. A company puts out a hiring add and within 8 hours they've already gotten over 100 applicants. You need to be well qualified, hopefully have some connections, diligent in the job hunt, and a bit luck. Maybe going with a temp agency might be best and you might secure a permanent position.

You need skills. High speed typing, excellent proofreading, MS word, excel, experience filing. A year or tow of college helps show that you are dedicated and bright. References really are not that crucial. They are rarely checked (but do not make them up or you may end up in the newspaper.) You should be able to readily draft professional sounding cover letters and simple letters.

Paying a professional resume writer might be something to consider. The competition is stiff down here! If you have good personal/professional relationships with previous employers, ask them if they have any friends or associates in OC. Many times it's not what, but who you know that will get you to that second interview - or the first, for that matter!

Good luck!

thank you all so much for advice, I tried applying online already eventhough i haven't moved there, but I guess they will consider locals first. and another problem is, I don't speak spanish and I know most companies require that you are bilingual, I can speak another language but not spanish I really hope to get a job there right away within a month or 2.

Rent a room in someone's house. $7k is plenty for 3 months.

You had better find a roomate. $7k will just about cover rent if you want to live alone in an apartment.

Statistics show that people who apply to job listings online have only a 4% success rate at landing a job. I tried it for a while and I've gotten a few interviews but never any call backs. Granted I don't have the strongest resume, and I was never too passionate about the jobs I was applying, just needed money to pay the bills, so this may have shown through my interviews. But still, with HR interviewing at least 50 people for one position, you'd better be very competitive.

that's what i'm scared of....what if they don't call me for interviews if they see that I just moved from another state, i hope that's not gonna be a problem, I have more than 5 years of office work experience but I don't really have a college degree, i just have some vocational training, I'm just so stressed right now...I know some people that lives in Orange county who has a degree and still looking for work until now..
