I'm moving to OC soon from east coast. Anyone could give some idea about the rent of 2br around Irvine? Also, where can I find a 2br apartment within 30 min. commute to the business area? Thanks.

Average is about $1700-1800/mo. Too much cheaper than that and its probably in a bad area. Irvine itself doesn't have any bad areas and its probably even more expensive that that. Where's "the business area" of Irvine? There's businesses all over. Spectrum? Airport? Costa Mesa is close by and cheaper than Irvine.

I don't know about it being near "the business area". However, I have been looking for 2 bed/2 bath rentals. I'm finding that for 1900+ you can get something nice.

Look in Costa Mesa. Its right by the airport. No freeway required. There's a nice complex called "The Cape" on South Coast Drive. There's also a few complexes on Paularino that are close. Don't rent in Santa Ana.

is a commute from Irvine to Loyola Marymount via public transportation (preferably train) possible within a reasonable amount of time, say 1 hour?

No.

At least 2 hours, probably more. Metrolink Irvine to Santa Fe Springs. Bus/Shuttle from Santa Fe Springs Metrolink to Norwalk Green Line. Norwalk to LAX on Green Line. Probably a bus from there to LMU. Long time.

Check out this complex: Woodbridge Meadows. I stayed there a little over a year just about 10 years ago. It was one of the most reasonably priced apartments in the city, probably because it was not owned by the Irvine Co.
Overall, it was an OK experience and considering the price, it was worth it.

It is not that close to John Wayne but still you can get there within 15 minutes without taking the freeway.

You can get a beautiful two-story, 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo for $1,800 or so at LosCab. http://loscab.com They also offer free gym membership (annual cost is around $1,500). Nice place to live. I'm not sure if they have vacancy though. Located close to South Coats Plaza (2 miles).
I worked at Irvine and it took 12 min to get there by 405.

I am confused..is it free gym membership or annual cost of 1500??that adds over 100 a month to expenses...

noted that they do not have washer and dryer in units,,but "hook ups"..

just wondering..
