Hi, looking for advice on low cost cell phones please.

Does anyone have any experience with TracFone or Net10 or any other provider of no contract cell phones?

Primarily looking for:
  • signal strength and coverage;
  • handsets that are recommended or should be avoided;
These will be used by, a High School student, a working Mom & (possibly) a businessman so will need to be able to access internet & social media and will be used between LA, San Diego and Lake Havasu City.

Appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Sprint family plan works pretty well. The only place I ever lost coverage for an extended amount of time was when I drove through the White Sands Missile test Range in New Mexico.

Upgrade to unlimited data and you are set. A lot of people seem to like the EVO handset

I was with Sprint and really liked them. Most of my friends and former co-workers were all with Sprint. If you call another Sprint phone for mobile to mobile it is free no matter what time of day you call. I was pleased with the cost, my service plan, my phone and everything about Sprint. I am now with Verizon and they are super expensive and nickel and dime me. I hate them. I switched to Verizon because a boyfriend put me on his plan. The quality of Verizon is good, but they are one of the most expensive plans around. Verizon is NOT cheap!

My brother and his family use T-Mobile for all 4 of them. They are very happy with the cost. It is an all inclusive plan with unlimited data, voice and text. They have been with T-Mobile for many years. www.t-mobile.com/shop/packages My brother's kids are on the Internet on their phones constantly and they text all the time. My brother said their phone bills are low since there are no overage charges. I asked all of them about the voice quality and they say it is good. They use T-Mobile from Ventura County down to San Diego County, over to the IE and in Vegas. They say the quality is good. I am considering changing to T-Mobile myself and getting off my expensive plan at Verizon.

The blue tooth you buy depends upon the phone you buy. They have to match or voice quality is no good. For phones I have had LG for the last couple of phones. Some were good, some were excellent and one was cr*ppy.

My dad has a Blackberry and he loves it. That thing is attached to his hands and he can not seem to get off it. My parents are with Verizon. It is the plan they signed up with and they never changed.

TracFone or Net10 - I had never heard of these companies until you posted them. Why don't you Google them "TracFone consumer complaints" "TracFone customer reviews" or something similar to find them rated. Try looking them up on this review site. I find it helpful. http://trustlink.org

Thank you both for the feedback - I'll check Sprint & T-Mobile and Google complaints (hadn't thought of that ).

Stimobile.com : They charge you $0.10 per minute and also an overhead cost of $0.10 per day. Service is sufficient.

Virginmobile.com : They cost $35/mo for 300 minutes plus unlimited data (3g). Quality of service similar to STI mobile.

What's the quality like? Are there any dead zones in Orange County?

Is the Internet portion really unlimited, or will they cripple it if you use it a lot?

Most of family plan works well, if your guys are enough for numbers.

Maybe, some plans can bound the telephone together. You can inquiry about that from your local branch.
