Long Beach
Hey All,
I am considering working for Boeing in Long Beach and I was wondering does anyone on these boards currently work for them or know anything about them? Also, how much would it be for a nice apartment in a nice area in Long Beach? Thanks.

Working for Boeing is like working for any big aerospace company. Fairly slow moving with lots of process. Probably pays pretty well with relatively good job security.
An 1 BR apartment in Long Beach along the coast would probably run about $1,100 per month. You could probably fine something away from the beach but still in a good area for a few hundred dollars less. If you're single and young you're going to want to be in Belmont Shore (by the coast) or downtown (also by the coast) I would suspect.

Boeing in Long Beach or out at Stennis Space Center. Rent kinda high in city, homes would be a better option outside of the cities.

There are three Boeing offices that I know of: on Lakewood, near Long Beach airport, in Seal Beach, and in Huntington Beach. They are all within 2-3 miles of each other.
SB and HB offices are close enough to the beach that you'd have an easy commute, LB office a bit further, but not horrible.
SB and HB offices are in areas with wide surface streets that are fast moving at rush hour. (I work 200 yds from Huntington Beach Boeing)
As NapleRes says, Belmont Shore is an option.
Also consider Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Naples and Ocean blvd in Long Beach.

When looking for a place in LB, be careful. You can go down one street that's full of beautiful homes and a very nice area then make a left and it's beyond ghetto. That's just how LB is.

There are some ghetto areas in Long Beach but if you stay in East Long Beach you'll never experience them. Long Beach is a city of 50 square miles.

Long Beach is RAD! I have a friend that workd at Boeing by the LB airport. She loves it there. Says that it started her out as a receptionist at 15 an hr and she has since moved up the ladder now making 25. You can find decent apt 1bd in a good neighborhood for 900 a month. It just depends on what you consider to be a "nice" building.

I currently work for Boeing, in El Segundo. It's a large company they have good benefits and what not. I'll have 15 years in January. What will you be doing ?? I can find out about what you will get paid. Remember not to low ball yourself on pay. You can always negotiate down but not up. You may want to check the salary of the job you are looking at. There are some sites that will give you a good idea of what you should be making. I'm leaving the company for much better pay, after so many years I am under paid. They are such a large company that the don't counter offer, they know they can always get someone else cheaper.
Best Wishes on you new job ... it's a good company.

I find that a good thing about Long Beach, it adds character, something OC is lacking in most places except maybe Orange and Tustin.
Long Beach is underrated, I think it has much more to offer than anywhere in OC: Diversity, culture, urban feel, nice beach trails, festivals on the beach, rent is less than OC, houses are not cookie cutter...I could go on. Belmont Shores is one of the best neighborhoods in SoCal.
I have friends that work at Boeing, I work for Lockheed myself the past 9 years. They are pretty much the same, good job security, tons of benefits, flex schedules...good companies.
Like MagicTouch said go the high route when talking about salary, then let them decide and negotiate. It is all dependent on your position, Software Engineers III at Lockheed with 8-12 years experience, make anywhere from 90-130k. I think Boeing pays on that same scale pretty much. Aero and EE make right around there too, this all depends of course.

Long Beach is definitely underrated, but I would definitely avoid anything off the 710. Cypress is even considered a suburb of Long Beach, so Long Beach is definitely a big city. But apartment wise there are so many options, what do you have in mind?
