i used to go to the Brea CJ all the time when i was in college at CSUF. They had a great happy hour and it would get pretty crowded. Obviously prices are discounted during happy hour, but i always tip better after a few drinks.

My nephew works as a waiter at a Black Angus in OC. On Fri-Sat nights, he will bring home $140-$160 after tipping the bus boys. On other nights he averages $80. He says it really depends upon the station a waiter is given and how "in" he is with the person up front who seats the clients.

I hate the tipping system. In other states, it's justified by paying servers well below the standard minimum wage of $7.25/hr: only $2.13/hr.

However, in California, servers don't make $2.13/hr. They are entitled to the same minimum wage as everyone else -- $8.00/hr. So why are we still expected to tip? The workers at In-N-Out Burger consistently do a great job, yet they collect no tips at all. It seems quite unfair.

I have a neighbor who is a long-time OC resident, and he agrees with me. He said that what he does is tip 10%. It's enough to keep servers from flipping out on you, and it's easy to calculate. I've decided to adopt his system and tip 10% for satisfactory service. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

That is your right. I do remember working as a waitress and the ones who were the most stingy were white collar workers, bankers and housewives. The best tippers were blue collar workers and punk rockers LOL! that is showing my age. I tip well since I remember being a server and I appreciate how hard it is to be on your feet and the treatment by a (few jerks) I had one almost shoved a steak in my face. $8.00 is still not alot to live on. Also there is more to remember and do then someone working in a fast food restaurant.
