Here's the article from OC Weekly:

Irvine and Santa Ana (Yes, That Santa Ana) are Dueling Safest Cities in America - Orange County News - Navel Gazing

Here's the Forbes article the above link references:

Irvine and Santa Ana are not deulling. Irvine is in the list of cities over 100,000 people. Santa Ana is on the list of cities over 250,000. Irvine does not qualify for the second list.

It is funny when irvine is touted as "the safest city in the United States" It isn't.

It is the safest city (statistically) amongst cities with more than 100,000 people. There are thousands of safer smaller cities all over the US. Some cities ahve zero violent crime.

Some people say that under 100,000 does not qualify as a city. Other lists apparently say under 250,000 does nto qualify as a City. It is all relative. All games. The safest place to live int eh US is not in a city at all. IN any event, it really makes no difference whether your partiacular city reprted 1/10 of a percent more crime than Irvine this year. Are you really less safe? If Irvine had 2 murders and Mission Viejo had 3 does that really make MV a less safe place to live than Irvine?

Santa Ana is not Safe!! I lived there for 20+ years and our home was broken in about 3 times, my mother was robbed, I was robbed as a teenager, my sister had her tires slashed in our driveway, and the neighbors in front of my parents place were victims of a drive by shooting (their son was in a tagging crew). Don't miss it one bit!!!

You lived in the wrong part of town. If you lived there in the 1970s-1980s most of the city was the wrong part of town. There are places where it would be crazy to live even now. There are lots of places where people live their whole lives and never experience anything of the sort.

The Register reports stabbings in Santa Ana on an almost daily basis. I've known a few people who grew up there and were used to the sounds of frequent gunshots, but as used to it as they were, they couldn't wait to get the hell outta there!

The few times that I've driven through there, I feel a strong need to shower and change clothes as soon as I return home.

These kiind of made up BS comments have no real meaning. If you live in a ncie area it is nice. If you live in a cruddy area it is cruddy. If you live in a mediochre area, it is mediochre. Generalizaitions abot an entire city of this size are just palain silly. However thi sparitcular generalizations is simply made up. If you have a problem with prejudice, you may well "feel like you need to take a shopwer. Get thos Hispanic germs off of you! You might wake up one morening and say "Hola!:" Oh my.

Perhaps you missed the other thread. Forbes recent ranking places Santa Ana as the 4th safest City in the US. Ahead of the 13 other Calfironia Cities large enough to qualify for Forbes definition of a city. Ahead of hundreds of other US cities. - sure it ai a war zone. Gunshots all night long - Yeesh! Nice imagination.

Yup, I definitely grew up in the wrong area. Major streets are Bristol and First for those familiar with the area. South Orange County is definitely less exciting and I love that.

I never understand why people say they won't live in Irvine because it is boring or too sterile.

If I want excitement, I will drive there. I want my neighborhood clean and quiet.

Irvine is paradise in my book.
