This is a great book which goes through just about every city in OC and explains the history of it, the pros and cons in a pretty snarky, sort of numerous way.

That it was named Orange because at one time they were thinking about making it the county seat.

The other makes no sense. It was full of Yorbas. I can't imagine one of them wanting to name it after a place in England.

Thanks so much for posting that Charles. I'm going to be looking for that book.

I knew most of it. Babe Ruth was also the Grand Marshall of the Halloween Parade in Anaheim one year. (That parade used to be a HUGE deal.) When I was a kid we saw the Clowns of the old Negro League play at LaPalma Park. I can remember getting their autographs after the game.

Raise your hand...

If you and mom (or dad) used to shop for school clothing at the two-story, wooden-floor J.C. Penny store in Laguna Beach.

We were a Sears family for back-to-school. Santa Ana then (after the mall was built) Buena Park. Though I remember that Penny's. They had stairs! Stairs were tremendously exciting.

At Ease in Fashion Island since I was way into Hang Ten stuff back then. Somewhat surprising they haven't resurrected the tees and swim trunks with the little embroidered feet for us nostalgic boomers. I would buy those still.
