A generic answer for lodging and jobs would be to say check out Craig's List and Monster but a more sincere and logical approach would be to ask:

~ How much are you willing to spend on housing?
~ Do you want a 1/2/3 bedroom apartment/condo/house?
~ Will you consider living with a roommate to lessen the housing cost?

~ What field do you work in and what type of job are you looking for?
~ Will you have legal rights to work in the States or would the employer need to sponsor for you (H1 visa, work permit, etc.)?
~ If you are going to be going to school and only need a job that pays cash, baby-sitting would be a good option. If you can find a house-sitting job it is even better (lower income but you will have some time to get another job and also you will not have to worry about rent).

~ Are you alone?
~ Will you need a car or would the public transportation (yuck) be adequate?

These what came to my mind at the spur of the moments. Good Luck!

Cheers,
TL
