Thanks for this post TJCullen7 - we were just in Irvine and toured around south OC this weekend as my company is looking to relocate me here imminently. We moved from the UK to the USA one year ago almost to the day (we're currently in Texas) and we loved our short time in OC this past weekend. We visited Newport Beach and then drove down the coastal road to Dana Point. Very nice. I shall keep an eye on this post as the ideas others have given you will go on my next trip planner too ;-)

Enjoy your trip! if you have any relocation questions I might be able to help you on with regard to moving from the UK please feel free to ask.

Hey Tigerlilly, I have loads of relocation questions. We've had itchy feet for a few years now and the more I travel for work... the more I want to leave England.

We have our own company over here, which is doing great. So getting a permanent transfer type move through work, isn't going to happen. Which leaves us at square one again!

No.

In fact I have only been there once.

However I am a fan of classic British cars (particularly Jensen - who does nto want a car with your name on the marque).

Well this British Expat discussion forum website is a great source of information for all sorts of visa questions plus the usual types of relocation queries from the mundane to the unusual! Someone I "met" on that forum was looking to come over to the States and buy a small business over here which they have now done (it's a petshop/dog grooming parlour). I don't know what hoops and/or how much money they had to bring to get visas based on buying an existing business here but they did it and it didn't seem to take them that long. I think they came in on special visitors visas with a view to purchasing a business. Once they bought the shop they converted their visas. I am still in contact with her so can ask her if she would be willing to offer you advise if that might be an avenue you wanted to explore? Direct message me if you want to chat about that.

I am on that forum too Even though I immigrated from Canada there was so much good information about Visas and moving to the US I became a member and still go on there daily.

Depending on the size of your UK business and if it could continue to operate without you there, it is possible to get a transfer. You would need to either start a new business in the US or purchase an operating business. This would be a L1 Visa (and does lead to a Green Card). The other option is to purchase a businesss on an E2 Visa (this does not lead to a Green Card). The problem with the E2 is if you have children they have to leave the US at age 21 unless they can get their own visa.

While you are here if you are going to be in San Clemente you should go to Fisherman's on the pier. Go around 4pm for the happy hour specials and to watch the sunset. The have daily dinner specials for $3
