I live in Mission Viejo off of the 241 toll road and I have to take a flight back to WI and the prices are exactly the same from LAX and San Diego.

They both leave at around 630am

What is the better move here?
Easier off site parking?
Better traffic situation?

Any advice/recommendations would be great!
Thanks

I vote San Diego. LAX sucks even before you get there. Or pay a bit more and fly out of JWA.

I concur with the above post.

However a better option would be to fly into Long Beach - it is the best airport in the region IMHO. Does your airline have flights into LB?

I reviewed all 5 LA area airports in this thread. See post #7.

Another vote for San Diego; both airports will be super busy at 5:30 AM, and both cities could certainly use new airports, but SD gets my vote.

Flights leaving at 6:30 a.m. You'd need to check in before 5:30, and get to either airport by 5 at the latest, so rush hour isn't really a big factor.

What roads do you know best? Do you know where parking facilities are at either place? Will you use the closest, and easiest to find, but more expensive, parking right at either airport? If you need discount parking, I'd research that in advance (lots of private lots around LAX; I don't know about SAN but assume there are some).

Given the hour of the day, I'd probably opt for LAX, as it's slightly closer to you. I would want to know there are more options should my flight be canceled (something usually an advantage for LAX), but that may not be a concern for you. I'd also want to know what type of aircraft are used for each option. One thing you don't say is what time of day you're returning and need to drive home.

One above poster refers to JWA. They are apparently referring to John Wayne Airport (Orange County Airport). Airport code is SNA. I assume you've already looked at that, and Long Beach, as options. I understand some people detest LAX, but I never found SAN all that much better. To each their own.

Also check out ONT - Ontario. Pretty robust Southwest Airlines schedule in & out of there. If you are off the toll road, it would be just as far as the other 2 and it is an easier airport to get around then either SAN or LAX.

1. Pay the extra money and fly out of John Wayne...trust me, it is worth it. I never fly out of LAX, and if I have to fly internationally, I will fly into San Diego. I will never fly into the hell hole of LA as long as I live.

Wow. A person of strong convictions. SAN has far fewer international fights than does LAX, so not only may one pay more but also have to take a more circuitous route, with more stops. I've flown all over the world, to about 45 different coutnries, and have been to some really bad airports. To me, LAX doesn't even begin to compare with some of those (not even sure is JFK is any better), but if someone is willing to paymore and fly longer to avoid that airport, who can object? But OP may not have quite as strong feelings. And we don't know how much extra they'd pay to use SNA and what their budget is. Presumably they already know where it's located and that it's a shorter drive for them and they have ruled it out.
