Default Relocation to orange county

Me and my husband want to relocate to orange county next year, we have a 2 year old so want somewhere that's great for families and isn't too far from the beach. We would rent initially and would greatly appreciate advice on areas we should look at that isn't too pricey

Well, pricey is relative. What budget are you looking at?

you should be able to find something nice in your price range.
Off course I am going to recommend Huntington Beach, just because it is an awesome place to live with good schools and plenty of other civic amenities (and a beach!)

Other place worth considering are Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Fountain Valley, the WESTSIDE of Westminster, the EASTSIDE of Costa Mesa (although there are some nice areas on the west side)

You can even try Dana Pont and San Clemente, although they are a bit on the remote side.

Aliso Viejo, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Rancho Santa Margarita are very clean (albeit a bit sterile for my tastes) and very family oriented.

Haha are you serious? On the remote side? San Clemente and Dana Point are a heck of a lot nicer than the areas you listed above. South OC is way different and in my opinion much more appealing to a married couple with kids than the above areas especially Huntington Beach. Of course you'd think RSM is a bit "sterile" when everyone and their brother in HB is a tattooed, pierced up, druggie!!!! I'd much rather hang out with my 2 year old in dowtown RSM anyday than downtown HB. Downtown HB feels like I just stepped onto a set of Sons of Anarchy.

Costa Mesa? What a dump. Any city that has a good side vs. a bad side not thanks. Traffic in Costa Mesa is horrible. And you either live in an apartment or a run down rental or a $800K house. There is hardly any middle class in places like Costa Mesa.
