I love Old Town Orange. It is not as pristine as Irvine and probably has higher crime statistics, but the trade off is a great community with character. Old Town Orange is on my top five list of places to live in OC.

Completely forgot but I remember being freaked out with all the airplane noise on Paularino / Bristol.

Great tip! We checked out some of the apartment communities on MacArthur / Bristol.. it's really nice and well within our price range. Love how Chick-fil-A and In-N-Out are right next to one another.. and Chipotle.

Parkwest. Unfortunately, we are unwilling to move there as Parwest sucks.

Orange is a bit far out for us.. much like Lake Forest.

What are your other cities in your top 5, if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks for all the replies by the way..

By the way, what does everyone recommend paying for rent in the OC area? We're fresh out of college and I'm hearing anything from 25% to 40% of your income. We're closer to 40% at this point..

Isn't the rule of thumb about 1/3 of your income?

Old Town Orange.
Silverado Canyon

Balboa Villiage.

The order varies from time to time for various reasons.

Is 33% of your income possible in the OC for young professionals?

I wouldn't say we're not making good money.. but it's really hard to stretch a dollar. I find myself drinking at home more now as I cannot afford to booze it up at the bars every weekend.

My share of the rent is 22% of my take home pay.
