My fiance and I have been looking to relocate to Irvine due to our company's corporate headquarters being located there, and both of us want to be working in HQ. However, I will be at a retail store in the beginning. She will be in the corporate office and she needs to have as little of a commute as possible. So, this is why we have decided to live in Irvine. Recently, my current store got closed, so we have to make this move immediately. There are only 3 stores with openings in the surrounding areas: Pico Rivera, Huntington Park, and Commerce. Will this commute be possible from Irvine to any of the 3 cities listed above?

It's not a great commute, but if you have off hours commute, it might be okay. The 5 through OC isn't that bad and the 91 to the 605 isn't awful, but it isn't fun, either.

It unfortunately, would not be off-hours most days, but I could swing some weekend days. Are we talking over 2 hours?

If off hours and weekends then you are in MUCH better shape for the commute and nowhere near 2 hours in such cases, unless there is an accident. Now, it is a very different story during rush-hours. We used to have to go in to Irvine and back from around the Norwalk area and it was never bad. However, that isn't to say that you may come to some momentary congestion and slowing here and there, but as you know, that is NOTHING in LA where one can crawl for HOURS.

I would say your best bet driving would be (from Irvine) the 55 north then 5 north then 57 north 60 west and finally 605 south.

In all honesty though, TAKE THE TRAIN! You are PERFECTLY set up to do so! Get on the Metrolink station in Tustin or Irvine, which ever station is closer to the place you will live in, up to the Commerce station!!!!!! From there you could just take the bus or buy a bike to commute to and from each station. That's what I would do. Save me money, TIME, and heck even exercise!
