Hi everyone,

Im moving to Dana Point and I was wondering where the best surf beaches in Orange County are?

Any help would be great!!!!!

Closest to you that's good would be Salt Creek in DP. Go Southeast to Poche (San Clemente) or Trestles (San Onofre) which are somewhat better. If you're a beginner, Doheny is a good spot to learn or longboard. It has long, gentle breaks. Salt Creek is challenging because it drops off quickly so has steeper, shorter breaks. Definitely shortboard only there.

I imagine the Wedge is the most popular spot.. There are plenty of spots in Huntington as well

Unless things have changed when you live in DP you generally stick to spots there and points Southeast down to San Onofre. Maybe it's because you generally get to know the other surfers around there better (often because you go to the same schools or at least in the same district). I always felt on foreign turf/surf venturing to places like NB or HB.

You've got to be a maniac to surf The Wedge.
