I currently live in RSM, and attend Saddleback College. I'm looking at tranferring to Chapman University, and don't really want to move to Orange or the surrounding area. That said, what am I looking at as far as toll road fees etc as I will obviously have to commute? I have never driven on one before and have no idea how to do so. Do you only pay once when you get on the toll road? Or do you have to stop at every toll you pass and pay more? They make it so freaking confusing!

Do I need a transponder? Is there any such thing as a yearly toll road "pass"?? (If so, how much does it cost??) Thanks for ANY info!

I live in Aliso Viejo, work in San Diego County, and take the 73 Toll Road every day for a brief part of the trip.

It’s really easy. Currently, you have a choice of either getting a transponder, or paying cash. The cash option is scheduled to be phased out in 2013. Then, it’s either a transponder, or payment via the internet within 48 hours of your trip.

You authorize monthly deductions with the transponder. You’re charged every time you go through a toll collection point.

Try this to calculate your costs:

Thanks! So if it says $2.20, it's really double that right? Assuming you take the toll there and home again? So that would be multiplied for every day that you take it?? Geez kinda pricy for a road :l Do you know what you pay annually?

Yes, if it says $2.20, that's the per trip (cash) amount, so it's $4.40 round trip. It can be expensive, but for some its worth the convenience.

Prices vary. The 73NB, for example, is about $5.50 each way. Tolls are somewhat cheaper with the transponder. You pay monthly and your annual costs depend upon how many trips you take.

The trip calculator at the website will factor in transponder use discounts and time of day toll differences, if any apply. They charge 2 bucks a month for the xponder.

Only if you don't use $25 in tolls in the month. If you're using the toll roads to commute, I don't see any way you'd end up paying that $2 fee.

That explains why I always see the fee.

I've heard part of 133 is free if you travel in certain direction. Any idea?
