I can honestly say I've never driven down a street saying to myself "Look at all those open garage doors! WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO??? SOMEONE CALL THE AUTHORITIES!!!"

According to Bill Bishop in his classic, The Big Sort, you can tell you're in a Republican neighborhood if the garages look tidy. No way to tell though if they make you keep the doors closed. If you looked at mine, you'd think I was a bit left of Che Guevara.

If you could see into the bowels of that one, you'd be thinking Hugo Chavez.

Oh, and notice the paint colors? I picked those all on my own without choosing from a pre-approved list of association color schemes. Yes America, I managed to resist the temptation to paint it purple with yellow polka dots. One of these days I'll get around to painting those new 2x4 boards that went up when the roll-up door was installed.

if i own a property i should be able to do whatever the hell i want on that property, so long as it doesnt bother the neighbors. and if it turned out my neighbors were HOA control freaks id soon be looking for a new place to live.

...my point being i would never live in Orange County, CA

Sir, do you have a permit for that refrigerator? Turn around and walk slowly backwards toward me. You're under arrest for wasting energy and having an open door.

I have carbon credits in the bank by never driving to work and having an unheated house.
