Yes. Let's move on to bagels. As for the OP, Kevin, it will be almost impossible for you to make a big mistake by leaving Soho and the scene you describe for OC, based on your criteria, IMHO. Rent some HELOC Ponzi's problem for a year, ride around, get to know the area, and pounce on one of the many thousands of distressed homes that will be available for years to come. Go to Cars n' Coffee in Irvine every Saturday morning and you'll meet tons of car hobbyists, make connections and be livin' the dream in no time. And drinks at Javier's are only $20!

Good for you, I think OC and So. Cal in general is going to suit you fine, and anything you miss back in NYC can be made good by flying back a few times a year.

Much, much better than the food. I've never even considered eating there. It's a scene, you'll, at worst, get a kick out of it. At best, you'll be back at your pad with a cougar and a Whole Foods frozen pizza in no time!
