My point was the bites are rare because coyotes have so many small animals available to them but human bites do happen. In addition, after the fatal attack by a coyote on a 3 year old girl in Glendale, CA in 1981 the state instituted urban coyote management programs.

The real danger from wild canines is rabies. Where I live the red foxes are particularly dangerous in this regard, though obviously they couldn't devour anything much larger than a squirrel. I'm sure there's a similar issue with coyotes.

I've seen coyotes all of the place. The Beach, Bolsa Chica Wetlands, Canyons, Parking lots, etc.

Rattlesnakes are all around, too. There use to be a pile of rocks in the Bolsa Chica wetlands were you would see kids playing. I would always tell their parents about the rattlesnakes. The wouldn't believe me until Iu showed them very visible rattlesnake nests.

The county had signs posted, but because the were very cool graphically, the locals would always steal them.
