Default Irvine man plots to commit acts of mass murder in OC

Wow and I thought Irvine was the safest in the country.

OC DA: After son's death, professor plots attack - Yahoo! News

SANTA ANA, Calif. — When his son killed himself after being punished by his high school for stealing, pharmaceutical sciences professor Rainer Reinscheid was angry.

He blamed the Irvine school's treatment of his son for the teen's death — and the next month, wrote emails describing in graphic detail a plan to buy guns, murder students and administrators, carry out sexual assaults, burn down the school and kill himself, authorities said.

For whatever reason, Irvine has a history of bizarre crimes. The (partial?) list in this article is only current up to 2009:

Irvine might be safe, but why is it so weird? | murder, one, irvine - News - The Orange County Register

I heard of some of the others, but not this one. It's not weird, just disgusting.

This could happen anywhere in the world, if the right buttons are pushed with the correct pressure, any one can snap at any given time and place. A father loses his son and can snap, especially if he believed there was some wrongdoing and/or injustice involved. For a 14 years old to get suicidal over this seemingly trivial incident doesn't seem normal unless there was extreme and prolonged pressure from people around him, possibly including even his own family.

The article focuses on what the father was doing after the son's death but no real details were given as to what was happening up to the point of suicide so it is hard to come to a conclusion. Labeling the guy a nut and dissing him would be only natural given the limited and possibly biased news article.

For a seconds, imagine if indeed there was a major foul-play by the school and the people involved which caused YOUR kid to eventually take his/her own life, how would you cope with it?

Of course, this is not to say there was definitely something wrong at home, I mean how could the kid psychologically get to the point of taking his own life and family didn't have a clue?

Either way, imho, it is more of a sad incident than "disgusting" as some of you thought.

PS. On the surface, Irvine might seem like a safe, clean, ideal place to live in and for the most part it is but I always found the city and its officials overly controlling and the city to be a delusional paradise, a golden cage that lacks soul and a vibrant lifestyle most extravert or free-spirited people would want.

Saying and doing are two totally different things... I think a man of his intelligence would come to the realization that what he was planning to do was stupid, and he would opt out.

I have friends studying pharm at UCI... I wonder what they have to say about him!
