I think you have to define "nicest", cause obviously everyone's personal perception is different :P For me, as far as safe and beautifully planned communities and gorgeous housing, Ladera/RSM/Coto for sure (but I'm biased! . I consider it the nicest because there's no run down or sketchy areas anywhere in the vicinity. For beauty in nature, Laguna's beaches. For nicely manicured plazas, apartment complexes, shopping centers etc, Irvine. Every place has a different reason for being desirable to different people.

As others have said, nicest for what? While I love the Orange Circle, Downtown Fullerton, Clementine in Anaheim, Riverside Drive in Santa Ana and other places, it is tough to beat living by the beach in South County. It isn't cheap obviously, but it does have a very relaxed lifestyle.

The sign that said leaving California in Blythe.

I lived in L.A. county 20 years and Orange County 27 years... Leaving was the best.

Its better outside of CA. Take my word on it, I left in 2008, you could not drag me back.

Anadarko, Oklahoma. popilation 5000.

The sign on the road says 65 MPH the speedo says 67 MPH... any day of the week and hour of the day.

If I hit the big road the speed limit if 75 MPH and any time I have been on it I can do the speed limit.

I make more money here than I did in California a $7 an hour raise to start. Where I was working was in trouble, where I am working it was near death, now it running...

When I got here the business I work for was run by a guy that gave up, I see why. his techs were no good. I made the deal to stay here until he sold it. the new owner is on it, we now have 2 other techs besides my self that are better than what our local new car stores have. We take in cars they cound not fix or fix proper.

I worked the same shop in California for 21 years.

1. Laguna Beach - You get the beach & the country feel in the Canyon. Custom homes that look like custom homes, cozy cottages, affluent but not pretentious like Newport. Lots of natural greenery, not as tract-home looking as Villa Park. Not as many McManions like Newport Coast. Next door to great shopping in Newport. Great for families and singles. In many ways, very un-OC. Quite removed from highway.

2. North Tustin / Orange Park Acres - Best family neighborhoods. More woodsy than developed Villa Park or Yorba Linda which have very Brady Bunch custom homes that look like tract homes. OPA is an equestrian community and, contrary to popular belief, North Tustin's Cowan Heights is more affluent the Villa Park. VP is the richest city in North County but Cowan Heights is the richest area and it's more populated. I love the rural, ranchy feelings of these areas. In sharp contrast to the stereotype of the tan, two-story OC home with vaulted ceilings.

3. Newport - Great shopping, beaches, near airport, harbor. All the obvious reasons.
