The market is out of control. My girlfriend sold her house in Irvine in a bidding war in 4 days way over market value (and it was an almost $800K home with NO YARD).

Another friend had to put in 27 (yes, 27) offers before winning a place. Cash is king right now. Completely sucks.

Yeah.. Even places around Fountain Valley like the good parts of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, etc, home prices are going to be around 600K at the minimal for a 3 bedroom family home (based on the website I was looking at). For a decent/nice house, it seems to be around 700K not including closing cost. OMG.. To be able afford that comfortably, the household income should be over 200K.

From what I gather, everyone that lives over 20 miles from work, seems to complain a lot about the commute time... The most I would ever be willing to commute would be 35 minutes one way. Under 10 minutes would be preferable.

I'm aware of the ..traffic, etc.

I am basically looking to eventually own a home somewhere in one these following cities...huntington beach, costa mesa, fountain valley, fullerton, yorba linda, irvine, tustin, lake forest, laguna niguel, mission viejo, aliso viejo, foothill ranch.
I'm willing to drive from these areas up to El Segundo,
Any suggestions would be great.
I don't think anybody caught you on this.

These might be good places to live but if you are working in El Segundo, you will have brutal traffic every day. This can't be over emphasized. I did the commute from Las Flores to El Segundo for two years, on a cheap ($130/mo) vanpool with no stress (I surfed the internet while people drove). But still it was brutally long, lots of traffic, lots of personal time spent on the freeways even in jammed carpool lanes. You really need to reconsider living in these places unless you foresee getting a job closer to home in a year or two.

If I didn't already own my own home, I couldn't afford to buy it now.

Prices are CRAZY (again).
