My 2 nephews (13 yrs & 18 yrs) are visiting from the Midwest. One is an amateur skateboarder featured in some documentaries. I'm sure skateboarding tricks are not allowed on the sidewalks, but is skateboarding permitted on the sidewalk along the sand? I think he'll be thrilled to take some pics with the pier/ocean background.

The second nephew has been featured in newspapers for the youngest person to catch the largest bass. I would like to have him fish a little off the HB pier (ocean). Is there a very close place near the pier to rent some bait and pole for an hour of fishing?

I don't know of any place that rents fishing gear. I thought skateboards and roller blades are not allowed anymore. I guess you can pose with a skateboard but can't ride it.
You can get a cheap used fishing rod and reel in CL or Walmart has cheap kits.

You also don't need a license to fish off the pier. At least it used to be that way. You can call F&G

With the exemption of wheel chairs (and similar devices) service and emergency vehicles, no wheeled devices are allowed onthe pier.

Skateboards are permitted on the Bike path... Just remember that the path is heavily used by Cyclists, Pedal cars. Roller bladders and pedestrians... Weekdays are good for what you need

No licence needed for pier fishing. Not sure about rental equipment

Let's Go Fishing, located near the end of the Huntington Beach Pier, rents everything you'll need for a day of fishing. The store also sells bait, tackle, and assorted fishing supplies, along with snacks, beverages, souvenirs, and beach paraphernalia.

Good for him! If he wants to shop with the locals I can recommend Jack's Surfboards. It's near the pier and they have a skate department. 101 Main Street.

skateboards are allowed on the sidewalk along the sand. but, especially on weekends if it is a nice day, there will be a lot of people walking, biking, skateboarding, etc.

if he really wants a picture skateboarding there with the ocean and pier in the background he should go mornings on a weekday.
