Around Orange??
It is a big possibility that I will be doing an internship at the Children's Hospital of Orange County in Orange. I was wondering if anyone knew much about the hospital or the area. Also, what is closest to the hospital area to live. I will be looking at Craigs List and some other options but I am unaware of how close some of the surrounding cities are. Also, since I am a single, white female that is 21 I would like to remain in a safe area. Thanks for any help!

Any help at all would be great! Even if you don't know about the hospital...I'm sure someone has information on the area.

Surely you have heard of Google.
This site causes link problems, but if you Google Children's Hospital of Orange, you will find lots of info.

I don't know much specifics about the hospital other than CHOC has an outstanding reputation for child health care and I would want my kids there for something serious.

Just don't live in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, or any part or Orange that costs below average and you'll be fine.

I lived within a couple of miles of CHOC for many years. It's a tough area to generalize about (unlike Santa Ana which is uniformly bad and South OC which is uniformly good). Finding a place nearby to CHOC where you will feel safe, especially at night, won't be easy. The neighborhoods north of 17th Street and east of Main Street are possibilities. But they are a mix. Several blocks of nice neighborhoods then some not so nice. In any case you will not feel safe shopping near these neighborhoods at night. To feel really safe you need to go east of the 55 fwy. That area starts about 4-5 miles east of CHOC. Best area there would be south of Chapman and east of the 55. But if you're on a tight budget you may be stuck nearer to CHOC and in a mixed area. You really need to drive these areas to see for yourself.

Dito,
Right around the hospital in nice and as long as you stay north and east you are alright. The area of La Veta NE of CHOC is really a nice place. Or look in the old towne Orange area. Very nice as well. If you go south on Main from CHOC you hit Santa Ana in about 2 miles. I would not head south. it's fine until around 17th street but it's best to avoid Santa Ana if your major concern is crime.
