At least when I wander 15' away, I put my cart in an out of the way location.

Get your shopping delivered, makes life easier. Shopping in the u.k. is a different story everyone who works there looks at you as if your stealing things. Manners don't exists either.
Little kids in the car park opening car doors into your nice new car is also a every day thing, and the parent doesn't even apologise if your standing right there..
When i move over to the US im sure it will be pretty much the same.

People that circle the parking lot for 5 minutes to find that perfect spot as close as possible to the door absolutely kill me. I hate people that will wait for you to leave to get that prime spot when there are 20 open about 100 ft down. We had a young women wait while we put our shopping away then got the 2 kids out of the carts and in the car (anyone with kids knows this isn't a quick 30 second process). Meanwhile, she is blocking the lane and causing a traffic jam. You'll never believe this...she was on her mobile the WHOLE time! I thought everyone down here was supposed to be in to exercise?
Also, people that talk on their mobile phones while food shopping. Now that I think about it, some Southern Californians can't do anything without having a phone to their ear.

My wife and I make a shopping date for around 9:30 at night on Tuesdays, that cuts down on these problems.
Tuesdays are the best day to buy groceries by the way , fresh food usually comes in on Monday.

That explains why every Monday I shop the meat looks "aged" haha.
Will try Tuesday evenings!

I've lived in OC for about 5 years now and NOTHING compares to this. No, I haven't had to pleasure of experiencing this anywhere else. But that's just the life out here in orange county.

Well I live in the Placentia-Yorba Linda area and there is a reason for it. I've never quite experienced any of what I've seen in this post in my area. I think it just goes with the more low key living and people seem to be a little more real. I'm sure I'll get burned here but I find people in South County (Irvine and South) to be incredibly rude and always in a hurry. At other North County stores (Anaheim, etc) places are just crowded and annoying.

I will focus on my experiences while grocery shopping at Albertson's in Irvine and Pavillions in Newport. I just wanted to get some feedback from other people and see if they experience similar events and what town/store they shop at.

1. When pulling into the parking lot I have to watch out for people backing up full speed without looking.
What about pulling out, when the car who is so nicely speeding by dismisses that you are trying to pull out, and continues to rev up and almost hit the tail end of your car...
2. I have to watch for darting kids across the parking lot because their parents are on their cell phone and forget they are with them. If other people didn't watch out for them, the kid would probably get hit.[/quote]
If parents don't have time to watch their kids - or their cellphone experiences are more the priority, then do not have kids for gods sakes!
3. When selecting your grocery cart or shopping basket you have to lunge for it like a foul ball at a baseball game before the other person boxes you out to grab it first.
How about the person that turns to sneeze....right on the shopping cart that he/she knows you already have your hand on - waiting to grab it to shop...of course me having the manners to be patient - still continues to sneeze without an excuse me or look in the eye...
4. When navigating the aisles of the store you must bring your navigation system to take alternate routes when aisles are under construction (people errantly placing their cart sideways in the middle of the aisle) while carefully selecting which bottled water is most appropriate.
Or when a person's heavy Saks Fifth Ave. wrap around sweater knocks everything off the shelves, clogging the aisles, and they look as though it wasn't their fault, all the while - no one else is around...who dun it?
5. Wear your riot gear because when you are approaching turns into a new aisle you have to avoid speeding carters or the all too often shoulder block or cross check from rude and inconsiderate, self-indulged people disengaged with their surroundings. Don't expect an apology, that will only slow them down on their utterly important mission to complete their shopping expedition in under 10 minutes flat!
My answer to that is they should put spikes on the wheels of shopping carts - so when a shopper acts this way- they bleed a little...
The bottom line, is, imo, I do not think this is "everywhere" or even in "most states" - THESE are perfect examples of the good old OC - everyone out for themselves, where it REALLY is ALL about them, and to say I live here--sheesh!
