if you will be working at Foothill Ranch, why not just live around that area? Portola Hills and Foothill Ranch area adjacent to each other within the City of Lake Forest. Mission Viejo is just south of these villages

Costa Mesa/Irvine. Every place else you listed is pretty boring.

I ditto the suggestion of just living in Foothill Ranch or Rancho Santa Margarita (my town), if you're going to work five days a week and the beach only once or twice. Commutes to Foothill Ranch from any beach city are going to be at least 30 minutes if not more during peak hours. If it were me, I'd rather live 5 minutes from work and do that 30 minute drive to the beach a couple of times a week, rather than the opposite.

In my opinion, the only town around here that really has that "funky" vibe is Laguna Beach, and that's the one that is the hardest to get into/out of on a daily basis.
