Nope. That was a typical La Niña summer after our moderate El Niño the year prior.

This summer will be just like last summer. Humid with warmer days and warmer nights. The warm water off of our coast and down to the Equator will be to blame. In 2010 we had colder than average SST's which is the primary driver of our temps here.

Even if El Niño fizzles out or doesn't bring any relief to California, it's still here until fall and already of moderate strength. It will most definitely make this summer very warm.

I know conventional wisdom says an El Nino summer should be a warm and humid summer. We certainly are seeing a lot of humidity, just no heat.

Just to clear things up, I am not complaining about the weather.

Look at the forecast for my town for the next 15 days. I see one day coming that will be 77. I guess it'll be July before I can go swimming.

Agreed I remember the brutal heat last summer. I will take this for a start.

What are you talking about it, it was 90F and humid a few days ago. The next day it was 85F in Tustin and humid.

Maybe where you are it is warmer because I never saw anything above 75-77 and that was one "hot" day. The next day it was back well below that. Admittedly, I did not leave my area and I guess I didn't realize it was warm elsewhere.

I work in Laguna Niguel, and it definitely felt hotter than 77. Was it? I don't know, but the ridiculous humidity made it seem that way.

I live up the coast in Oxnard. When it does get hot the problem with many homes in the area is that the house warms up and at the end of the day when things cool down the house is warm or even hot inside while the ocean breeze had cooled down the outside. A solution to this problem is a whole house fan, which is a fan that pumps the hot air from the home into the attic of the house, while pulling in cooler air from outside of the home. You do need to open some windows for this to work but it does get the home down to a cool temperature. For a home on or near the coast this set up seems to work very well. I know last year in Oxnard we had some days that were just over 100 degrees. In the evening though everything cooled back down, everything but the inside of the house. A whole house fan takes care of that.

Not sure how warm the ocean is in Orange county but for me I am keeping my wetsuit up here in Oxnard.
