Has anyone done this commute before? A friend told me it would be going against traffic. Any ideas of times and impact on mental sanity? Haha

Google says about an hour, wondering if that's accurate.

Did the google route say to take the 91 east, 15 north, to the 10 west? The 55 north, out of town, runs into the 91 (Riverside) and then splits at the 15... I personally consider these freeways as Hell, and during high traffic hours, suicidal.

I'd leave 2 hours early in the morning. That's from Newport. Irvine, might shave 20 or 30 minutes depending on where... it's really not the distance, or a difficult travel... just gobs of traffic.

It said take 5 to 57 to 10 east

I heard it was going completely against traffic in the AM, and PM.. as most of the traffic is from the IE to OC in AM, and OC to IE in the PM.

?

Honestly, any freeway heading out of OC in the AM is busy, and by 4PM any roads heading back are getting busy.

Personally, I think the 5, 57, 10east route is way more annoying and congested. That said, every route is busy these days. Just give yourself plenty of time... some days you'll get there in 40 minutes, others could take two hours...

I would do like I did and get up and check those commute times on GM on different days, also consider it's summer.

I am glad I did because I couldn't do a 10 hour day and 3 hours worth of commute so I passed.

There is traffic both ways on every major freeway from 6-10am and 3-7pm. How much will vary but it's inescapable, don't do it.
