I am staying with a friend in South OC, need to stay in the area (San Clemente / San Juan Capistrano) but am having the hardest time finding a place to rent. I am looking for a room - that's all or a studio for under 1300, I have 2000 in savings for a place to rent and need to be out of here before mid July (sooner the better). Is there anywhere besides Craigslist to look? Craigslist seems to be filled with scammers and spam and most of the landlords will not accept cosigners on 1300$ apartments. Has anyone been in this situation? I just want a place to sleep and relax, why is this so much to ask? I've been looking for a solid 3 months and nothing!

Going to be tough to find even studios at that price, especially with the extremely limited inventory we currently have, however they're out there. May be difficult if you need a cosigner.

San Clemente is probably your best bet. Just took a quick look at the MLS, and 1 W Avenida Ramona #F, San Clemente popped up for $1250/month. May want to check that one out.

Continue to look at Craigslist (be careful of scams) and drive around looking for For Rent signs. It's fairly common in this area for owners to just use For Rent signs and not list it anywhere.

So sorry about the frustration. I was looking at a cheap apt for my niece so she could move out of the house, but wow, things are pricey.

My bro found a room to rent in a nice big Irvine house. Surely there are those on Craigslist? He's still paying just $500/month. Shared living is not for everyone, but if you just want a bed and small space, then there are some out there. Hope you find something soon.

Two other options:

1. zillow.com does apartment listings, and has a pretty decent supply.

2. westsiderentals.com also has a good supply. The website is a little difficult to navigate (you can't narrow search results down by city within orange county), but the rentals are pretty legit because, unlike cragislist, you have to pay to list an apartment for rent. That probably weeds out the spam.

Yeah I guess it's just going to have to be a matter of timing. I have been told the rental market (rooms/apartments) goes up around July-September/October.. Hopefully something comes up, can't go much longer without a place. I hate that feeling of not having a place to myself.
