Same boat here, I have an opportunity in Irvine but wife will NOT leave San Jose.
Very frustrating but I have to swallow my pride since the "happy wife = happy life" rules apply, even though I'm miserable every day, I have to do it for the kids.
Also, my wife is the "boss" since she gets paid 150k while I only make 60k.

Wow, gotta hand it to you for putting up with a miserable job for the sake of the kids/family. You never know, maybe that job in Irvine is actually worse than your current one--office politics, horrible boss and backstabbing coworkers, etc. Sigh.

OP, since it seems that your only clear option to making more money is to move, and taking that job would mean a jump in quality of life for the wife, how is it she doesn't understand this? Have you explained all the benefits to her? What's the problem--she doesn't want to move away from her parents? She can visit a couple of times/year. Explain it all to her. I think you need to take that job.

Sorry dude, whoever has the gold makes the rules. Doesn't sound like your scraping by anyway. $210k household income in Silicon Valley? Housing costs suck and all but my god man--just find a more fitting employer and enjoy the already-great weather.

I was born and raised here and don't want to burn my bridges behind me. Is making your OC house a rental a possibility for you?
I agree with this. I'd rent out your house and rent something in the new city if possible. I know of too many people who left CA and could not move back as they were priced out of the market.
