I visited San Clemente again yesterday on our way to Ohana fest in Dana Point. SC really is a great place, and I'm leaning more toward moving there (weather is perfect too).

One thing I was confused about - at the show I met a girl who was from Dana Point, and she was telling me how someone she knew was visiting SC and didn't lock her car. Her stuff got stolen out of her car, and this girl told her "well what did you expect, we're in San Clemente."

Personally I'd always lock my car no matter where I was, but her comment threw me off - my friend later said to me, 'maybe that's something you should look into.'

I didn't get that kind of vibe from the area at all, but maybe I just don't know it well enough. Is that a common thing in SC?

Always lock your car. That's just common sense.

No, your stuff is not more likely to be stolen out of your car in San Clemente than elsewhere. My purse was stolen from a car on a residential driveway in Mission Viejo, and our neighbors had a computer and camera stolen from their car in Rancho Santa Margarita. These are two of the safest cities in the county, if not the entire country.

In my case, I had actually left the car door open, and my purse was sitting right there. So it sucks that it was stolen by some jerk, but I blame myself for being so careless. There are opportunistic people everywhere.

Statistics show that property crime is actually slightly higher in Dana Point than San Clemente.

I'm sure San Clemente is nice and I wouldn't mind living there but why is the traffic so bad on the I5? Is it due to contruction? When is it scheduled to finish? Many times I visit SD and recently traffic is bad even on weekends

I'm not sure why I-5 traffic is usually slow in San Clemente, but it has certainly gotten worse due to construction. The SB I-5 speed limit is only 55mph for a stretch beginning, I believe, around Pico.

As far as traveling down to San Diego on weekends, I avoid it since the freeway is too congested.

Not common but with the drugs, hippies, you get that. The trade off is its laid back.
