Commute from Irvine to Mission Viejo
Hi, I am looking into moving into California and moving in with my friend in Irvine. He's only charging me 500 a month for rent and it's in a nice house. But I am pursuing a nursing degree and I think that Saddleback College in Mission Viejo is the only comm. college with a nursing program. (I know IVC doesn't have one). Is it a reasonable decision to move to his house in Irvine (which is near UCI) and commute to Saddleback College? I know the commute will be very long, but I would really like to live in this house with my friend. Or, are there any 2 year nursing programs near UCI? Thanks.

It won't be a long commute at all. 30 minutes tops. South of the El Toro Y (where the 5 and 405 meet) the 5 freeway to Avery Parkway where Saddleback College is has no traffic. There may be some traffic going south before the "Y" but that isn't very far. From the "Y" it is 15 minutes. North is fine in the afternoon, but could slow down a little around the "Y" again around 5PM, but then picks back up. The 405 North usually stop around Jeffrey, but you will be off the freeway before then.

It really isn't that bad. My wife does it from Fullerton to Mission Viejo, and she doesn't mind it if she leaves around 7:30am. That accounts mostly for the traffic up here too. Not bad at all, and good luck in your program. We are very short nursing here and nationwide.

Not a bad commute! And you'll be going contrary to traffic. In the morning, most of the traffic is moving from south to north, reverse at night. Plus there are various routes to get from here to there. Congrats on your program!
P.S. rambutan... yummy stuff... one of my favorite fruits!

What about the opposite?
What about the commute from MV to Irvine? I may be moving out there and working in Irvine.

Mission Viejo to Irvine isn't that bad. They're practically neighbors! You can take side streets if you want to avoid the 5 fwy. Or Portola hwy depending on where in Irvine.
