Newport, at 2.3m, gets the distinction of being number 2 nationwide. Not bad considering how small OC is!

• Irvine ranked 30th at $978,209 – No. 29 last year.

• Huntington Beach ranked 33rd at $961,985 – No. 49 last year.

• Yorba Linda ranked 41st at $924,173 – No. 73 last year.

• Laguna Niguel ranked 44th at $905,619 – No. 38 last year.

I'm surprised that Laguna Beach and Dana Point are not on the list. Maybe they only considered cities over a certain population?

Good point. That is odd. I cannot explain it.

OC is not that small. It is the 6th most populous county in the nation.

That was the conclusion that I came too as well, that smaller cities were excluded. The cutoff maybe right around a population of 50K. Villa Park, Laguna Hills, and San Juan Capristrano were also not on the list.

Our little city is #72, it's surprising that home prices here are higher than 4 of the OC cities.

50k is not the cutoff, since my town in Illinois is 16K and made the top 100. What is not apparent on this list is that many of the east and midwest towns have larger homes with heftier pricetags than just your average 4 bedroom, 2 bath home that is the typical house here; using my town as an example, there are many larger homes with pricetags between $4M and $7M that would not affect a survey like this. OC has alot of very expensive tract homes which would make towns go on this list, particularly in towns like Irvine, but would keep big ticket towns off the list.

Smaller cities like Laguna Beach excluded and yet Anaheim Hills is not even a city in its own right. It a subsection (almost a neighborhood really) of the City of Anaheim. Strange list.

Thanks for the clarification. I was making an incorrect assumption based on only OC communities. I also overlooked Anaheim Hills which the previous poster pointed out is not even a city.

I knew a man from oc who bought 100 acres of orange groves and sold the property for tract housing, there are opportunities to afford a home if you look hard enough even in these places.
