Then you do a smaller fence on the inside that keeps the kids away from the thorns.

Irvine is one of the safest cities in the United States. Why wouldn't the schools be safe?

Also children may be exposed to strangers during recess on playgrounds. This is a major safety issue.
I suggest moving to Santa Ana where you willed find the schools very safely fenced off.

I don't claim residency in California but I do maintain two homes in the area, and I lived there for many years before I moved my business out of state. I know South OC very well, and the situations of the Irvine School District (as well as Saddleback and Capistrano). In fact, I was in OC all last week.

How is that the same as someone who hasn't ever been there in their life? Are you sure you know what the adage "pot kettle black" means.

You need to ask the OP that; he's the one who raised the issue. All I said was that school ratings are based on academics, not the other factors the OP is discussing.

Ruth4Truth was commenting on how "ratings" are created. Why does she need to live in Irvine to do that?

Because she nonchalantly threw in "safety" as one of the reasons why the IUSD ratings may be inaccurate. Anyone who has lived in OC knows how "safe" everything is below the 55 wall.

People who actually know the area should comment on these things, not people who have never stepped foot into OC. Otherwise it's just noise and false information.

Safety is relative. Irrespective of how safe the city/area is, no way we can let kids play on public playgrounds without adequate adult supervision. Kids are unpredictable and can wander around putting themselves in danger.

I didn't "throw in" safety "nonchalantly", nor was I saying the ratings were inaccurate. That is your misinterpretation of my statement. FWIW, I very deliberately addressed the concerns listed in the original post, to point out that for the most part, they are irrelevant to school ratings; they are not matters that contribute to the criteria used in school ratings. A simple statement of fact.

Most of his concerns lie outside the criteria used in school rankings. In other words, the OP shouldn't expect that a highly-ranking school meet any of his criteria, except the one relating to academics. If he wants to discuss those concerns, he should do so outside the context of school rankings. This doesn't pass judgment on whether his concerns are valid or not, or whether school rankings are accurate with regard to Irvine or anywhere else in CA. All it does is point out to the OP that schools aren't ranked by whether they have playgrounds, whether those playgrounds are fenced, whether there's a safe parking or drop-off area for the kids, etc.

OK, does that make it clear? Can we move on, now?

What school rankings? There are rankings which do indeed take safety into account. There are those that do not.

Which rankings are you talking about? Do you know how "safe" Irvine schools actually are? How do you know? Do you have first hand experience?
