Very good post by dl4060, but as you can see $$ was mentioned more than once. In other posts you will also see where - if you have enough money, California is great.
I find Hawaii to be much more affordable than that California life style and we can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon as well.

The best thing about California for me is; You can't leave California if you never lived there.

Really? The I-5 North is not an option for a family living in Oregon that came down to visit Walley World?

This is total bull****. Sure say the South has way more freedom unless you want an abortion, aren't Christian, are gay, want an interracial relationship, or basically do anything that's not "Christan Values." You can be anyone you want to be in California and for the most part will be left alone. You will get harassed endless in a lot of places for something as simple as being openly gay. Before anyone says you can't be a Republican here that's a complete lie, I know a ton of Republicans they just aren't the crazy alt-right ones. The alt-right ones hate it here because of our live and let live lifestyle.

Seriously, that is one of the things I liked about living in SoCal. People could have purple hair, tattoos out the wazoo or anything they liked, and everyone was tolerant.

You can't be a Republican here. There you go. I said it and I meant regardless of how much you scream to the contrary. Actually, you can be a closet Republican. But as soon as someone finds out, they'll do everything in their power to put the word out and make sure you're ostracized. I've seen it and lived it. And until you've walked a mile in my shoes, you have no grounds to tell me it aint do.

Have you not been able to get a job because you're a Republican?
Have you been denied service at a business because you're a Republican?
Has the government tried to pass laws to making practicing Republicanism illegal? (Ok restricting gun rights which I disagree with)

I have many friends who are Republicans and there are Republican congressmen in California so they aren't alone. So pray tell what has happened to you that makes it unlivable here?

It doesn't matter to me how many friends you have who are Republicans. That has nothing to do with me and my experiences. All the nonsense you're talking about is illegal. I'm talking about workplace and social circles (and would have expected that most people would have realized that...didn't think I needed to spoon feed that info). Being a Republican in CA (especially Northern Ca) has always been socially expensive as the other poster eluded to. Sorry if that's not your reality. In fact, you would have to go to the deepest part of the South to experience a group of people that are so intellectually rigid and close minded about their ideology (in my experience). And the adversarial way you're responding to my post, in addition to thinking someone couldn't have a different experience than you is actually proving my point.

My experience of living in both areas, NorCal and now SoCal, OC especially, is I didn't broadcast that I was Republican in NorCal, I don't broadcast I'm Republican in SoCal either. But more so in NorCal, more so at work. But my kid's friend's father is an organizer for Republicans fund raising in NorCal. So I don't think it's half as bad.
But I don't have a problem with social issues, I'm more of a Libertarian. Not particularly religious either. But go to church maybe a few times a year.

Are you saying people in the South can't be "gay, in interracial relationships, or not be Christian"?

Where do people get openly harassed for the above?

Yup. Go to the Film industry in SoCal and openly identify as a Republican or Conservative. Ask Tim Allen how that went.

Have you been denied service at a business because you're a Republican?
Uh that's actually happened.

Well glad you agree that conservatives are losing 2A rights due to socialist progressive leftist. I'll give you some credit for that. You should also look at the movement to take away Christian Churches tax exempt status (which is ridiculous since churches operate 99% from donations which have ALREADY been taxed by the government).
