part of it might be that a lot don't have id and hard to track down.

Exclamation Orange County Homeless Thread

I spent the President's Day weekend in OC, and noticed that the homeless encampment off the 57 has grown into a literal mini-city. It's probably twice as big as I remember it the last time I was by that area.

(video for reference shot in January)

WTF is going on? I thought OCSD was going to move this thing out. Did the ACLU win a court case or something? The amount of trash, needles, and human waste in the area is probably reaching toxic levels.

Yes it's huge encampment there. There's Mary's kitchen a block away from there and churches etc bring them food, clothes, tents there even a nurse that volunteers there. I heard they are rousting them out but dosent look like it.

I live about 10 miles from there and last week a homeless guy was found in our complex jacuzzi dead from OD. I can't imagine how bad it is at apts by angel stadium

Very sad and shows that liberal cities up north have less compassion for the homeless than conservative cities in south OC

To be fair, there are a good amount of homeless in Laguna Beach where I stay when I'm in California (and most coastal beach communities) , but they tend to stay out of sight for the most part since PD will not let them loiter for long periods of time. Also Laguna Beach has some of the most active homeless shelters in South OC, relative to the rest of the cities South of the 55.

That being said, these type of large encampments should NOT be allowed to fester. It's not just an eye sore, it's horrible for the people who live there. The amount of illegal, unmitigated drug usage, disease spreading, and STDs is probably off the charts. I seriously thought OCSD was going to do something about this (wasn't there a meeting in June 2016?). The fact that it's still here is a mark against OCSD or the ACLU, whoever allowed this to fester and grow over the last 12 months.

Obama literally did nothing for the inner cities across the country. Absolutely nothing.

According to the Yelp complaints, it's pretty bad.

OCSD says the river trail is county land and they can't do anything... same with Orange PD who my nephew worked for. Trust me they spend a lot of time on that trail but ACLU is fighting everyone who even suggests the homeless have to move with lawsuits... so there the encampment sits getting bigger every day and crime is rampant and needles/syringes are showing up in mass Where the river trail empties into the sea and so far nobody can do a thing.

Next time your in town check out the Santa Ana Civic Center that's a eye opening experience!! It's even worse then the river trail and same thing it's county land.
