I used to go to school at Cal State Fullerton, and it is a beautiful city, right next door to Brea you really cant go wrong living anywhere in the city. From LA it would be maybe about an hour to an hour and a half, maybe even more depending on traffic. I didnt live in Fullerton/Brea, I lived in Whittier/La Mirada area and it was a 30 minute drive for me to get to school with morning traffic. good luck

I have friends in Fullerton. Lovely area/very family oriented. Plenty of shopping and resturants. Like the last poster said, it's about 1=1/2 hour drive to LA.

Fullerton is a nice community. As the previous posters said, lots of shopping and dining, plus about 1-1 1/2 hours to L.A., depending on traffic. The downtown area of Fullerton in particular can be an interesting and fun place to check out.

I went to Cal State Fullerton too and lived right by the school. I lived in the La Ramada Apartments across the street from the school and it was probably one of my favorite places to live. It was really cheap (comparatively) and had everything nearby, Target, the school, fast food places everywhere even a good auto shop so I could walk home when I was getting stuff done to my car. There are good areas of Fullerton then there are the bad areas where the crack dens and stuff are (I had a friend who got hooked on drugs and the whole apartment complex (on State College and Commonwealth I think was a big drug outfit). If you stick close to CSUF on Yorba Linda Blvd. I think that's the best way to go. There are a lot of apartments along there. Brea is really nice too as is Placentia. I really enjoyed going to school in Fullerton. It was a good school, good teachers and the city is great for students because everything is really accessible. The other posters gave a pretty accurate idea of the drive to LA although I made the drive the other day and it took 3 hours one way on a Saturday or Sunday (I forget which) so it really depends. The great thing about Fullerton is that it is really central to a lot of things so you don't necessarily have to go to LA for much. Hope that helps!

Please someone explain how I am mistaken here...
I was driving all around Fullerton 2 weeks ago (more specifically 1101 S. Placentia) and it looked like a big ghetto to me. Tons of homeless and "undesireables" walking around. No pretty homes, no nice shopping present. I drove all around that area and it was horrid to my wife and I. A fair distance away around Chapman University was quite nice however... Where am I wrong here? |

eh... never said it was spectacular and "I" would not want to live there for an extended period of time. It IS pretty run down but then so are most affordable places in California. To answer your question though, you were in the industrial part of fullerton which isn't by the school or the nicer part. That part you were in is mostly industrial buildings and Mexicans. Fullerton is definitely high on the hispanic population which for whatever reason seems to correspond with it looking run down.
The part of Fullerton I was referring to was on the north end on Yorba Linda Blvd. That area isn't too bad. I don't usually see any homeless people there though so I'm not sure why you saw that. There definitely aren't any "pretty" homes if track homes and newer ones are what you were looking for. They are all old homes, kinda run down looking. In Placentia though, right next to Fullerton, they have some really nice neighborhoods and in Brea is really nice. That area of Fullerton you were in though off Placentia and Orangethorpe isn't too great, by the railroad tracks and what not. If you are there again for any reason though I highly recommend Pepe's - it's a mexican food restaurant (they have a drive-thru too) that is REALLY REALLY good. All the college students go there. It's right on Placentia and Nutwood or right around there just north of the address you listed. It's kind of pricey but they use really top quality ingredients for being a "fast food" kind of place. I know a lot of the fortune 500 businessmen in Brea go there for lunch and stuff too. Very popular. |

Fullerton, or any other city, that borders Anaheim ( and to a lesser extent Buena Park) will resemble that other city. That area, along with Santa Ana, are probably the worst places in all of OC. You should've went north of Chapman. Most of the city is well kept. |
