Best Neighborhood Near Huntngton Beach Hih School (California)
Hi, we are planning way ahead and looking for a neighborhood in Huntington Beach near Huntington Beach High School. We want to purchase a home now because home prices and mortgage interest rates have dropped. Our son is 11 so we have 2 years to go, but this seems like the time to buy.
We checked the HB Unified High School District, and they say that open enrollment will allow us to send him to HBHS even though, based on our address, his home school would default to Westminster High.
We actually want to live close to the school. We are active PTA members and enjoy school events. Our son is actually proud of his involved parents despite his independent streak.
So, if you have some ideas about "micro-neighborhoods" in the area, please advise.

I am more familiar with the area around Marina High School, where I graduated from. In that area, it is very desirable to live in The Harbour, or the outskirts of it. Sorry I don't know your area better...good luck. Maybe someone else out there can help this person

Is there a reason you desire HB High? What is wrong with Edison, Fountain Valley, or Ocean View?

I like Edison. Sports program is awesome and our son is kind of a jock. But the HBHS performing arts program is also great. We are a musical family and that was the main reason for leaning toward HB high over Edison.

What is your house price range? That ties into it as well. I'm looking with a client for a place that is close enough to drive their daughter to HBHS since she is in the performing arts program. Since their price range is lower, they are looking at areas with not a terribly long commute, but yours may be different.

We are open. We have checked realtor.com and the prices of homes in the HBHS attendance district are in our range. We are thinking of selling our home and our extended family (grandparents' home), both in the area, then move into one. It would be 5 people so 3 or 4 bedroom 2 bath is enough.

How much do you owe on your current home and your g-parent's home? The reason I ask, is if you could afford to sell one and keep the other while still buying the home near HBHS. To have one generating rent income as you all live in one together could help you not have to sell both in a down time. Then you can have an investment property with income and future appreciation. Just a thought. When house demand goes down, rent demand goes up, then gets really high, to the point where people start buying again and prices increase as demand does. The (vicious) market cycle. What price range are you considering?
